Granollers, and Twenty-Three Seconds
Born on January 4, 2006 in Granollers, half an hour up the road from the Camp Nou, and inside La Masia from the age of seven. On October 22, 2023 he came on for Fermin Lopez in the 79th minute against Athletic Club. Joao Felix put him through, he beat Unai Simon, and the clock said twenty-three seconds. Barcelona won 1-0. Nobody in the club's history had ever scored their first league goal faster, and at 17 years and 291 days he was the youngest to score on a Barcelona debut.
The Six-Million Clause
Seven senior appearances later, on July 1, 2024, Chelsea paid the release clause in his contract — a reported six million euros — and gave him five years. It was the ordinary version of a story La Masia tells often: a striker good enough for the first team of a club that already had one, leaving for the chance to be picked. He was eighteen.
Twelve European Nights, Eight Goals
What happened next was strange enough to define him. In Chelsea's Conference League run he scored six times, including a first-half hat-trick against Shamrock Rovers on December 19, 2024 — two headers and a shot from the left, the first European hat-trick by a Chelsea player since Olivier Giroud in 2020. Chelsea won the competition in Wroclaw in May and the Club World Cup two months after that. Across three seasons and three clubs he has twelve European appearances and eight goals in them.
The Same Day, Two Years Later
On October 22, 2025 — two years to the day after the goal in twenty-three seconds — he scored his first Champions League goal in a 5-1 win over Ajax, aged 19 years and 291 days. The same number of days old, on the same date, for two different clubs. That night Chelsea became the first team in the competition's history to have three different teenagers score in one match.
Two Hundred and Sixty-Five Minutes
The rest of that season is the part nobody puts in a highlight reel. He joined Sunderland on loan on August 6, 2025 and was recalled twenty-five days later, after two league games and a League Cup goal at Huddersfield, because Chelsea had an injury worry about Liam Delap. Then a winter and a spring of substitute appearances: ten Premier League outings across two clubs, one of them a start, two hundred and sixty-five minutes in total. He is a striker with two winners' medals who has never been given a run.
The Cabinet at 20
UEFA Conference League 2024-25: winner, and the competition's leading scorer through the league phase with six.
FIFA Club World Cup 2025: winner with Chelsea in the United States.
FA Cup 2025-26: runner-up. Manchester City won it 1-0 at Wembley on May 16, 2026.
Spain Under-17: joint top scorer and Team of the Tournament at the 2023 European Championship.
The Split
Twelve European appearances, eight goals. Seventeen appearances in Europe's top divisions, one goal — and that one was the twenty-three seconds. He has been lethal in the competitions where a coach can afford to gamble on a teenager, and almost never on the pitch in the ones where they cannot.
Why the 9 Matters
Leipzig loaned Christopher Nkunku back from Milan on August 25 and sent Conrad Harder to Strasbourg. Then, a week later, they signed Guiu and gave him the number 9. Sporting CEO Marcel Schafer called it a clear plan, and Guiu said the same thing back. Shirts are not selections, but they are statements.
The Room He Walked Into
Leipzig finished third last season with 65 points and are in the Champions League league phase. They also sacked Ole Werner in June and hired Martin Demichelis, so the man who has to pick Guiu is himself two matchdays into the job. New coach, new striker, eight European nights: everybody in that building needs something to work quickly.
